“There is romance in the cut stone of the building...the power
and beauty of its wooden timbers and gear wheels...the music of the millstone...and the sound of falling water."
Turning Again: Peirce Mill
The waterwheel is turning again at Peirce Mill in Rock Creek Park! Created to document the cultural history of the only remaining flour mill in the Washington, D.C. region, this orientation video tells the full story of Peirce Mill from its inception to recent restoration. Built in the 1820’s, Peirce Mill featured an ingenious system of gears, pulleys, and belts that automate the entire process of grinding grain. Because only parts of the mill have been restored, complex 3D animation was created to bring the process to life.
